When you sit down and look all the facts and analyze how every thing has its own process and development, you can realize that our life has unavoidable phases. So those things like going to school, doing homework and studying are just phases which lead us to the next level. Some do avoid them but that doesn’t mean they won’t get some other things they would have to do or learn.
All this thinking led me to this.
Once upon a time there were schools, colleges and academies where people who liked journalism used to go to learn and get information and education.
That was the process. There were respectable, prestigious schools where education and preparations were serious and longlasting.
But after few years people with degrees came out, full with knowledge and skills to report, find and present news to people and investigate.
Now many future students before they step in those schools have to think more than twice. They have to see all the facts and collect all information about number of already existing journalists, number of those unemployed and number of those just fired.
Hard, painful and discouraging process.
But like many things now, without any warranty.
On the other side I see many new ways of getting training today.
Workshops, courses, so called webinars, even blogs and Internet of course.
Almost every week in some country appears new workshop on citizen journalism and citizen media. People get informed there.
Collect some new skills and learn how to use new technology in everyday life. And most important learn how to recognize news when they see it. Around them, in their ordinary lives. They get training not to become professional journalists, because that’s not the way to get that title, but to become better prepared citizen journalists.
Another citizen who has skills and tools to use on some interesting event. Who better can tell the story than everyday girl or guy, using simple words and expressing her/his emotions through the event? That’s the citizen journalism charm. Honesty and right, not staged moment.
So, as always in life we have two paths. It’s personal decision which one you should choose.
Totally different and similar at the same time, because at the end of each you really get more information and almost none warranty.
