TwitterFor those who use Twitter like myself here is a pleasant surprise. Twitter has a new homepage and it’s really great. Big change in every way.
First design is new and I like this more, although we spent more time inside tweeting, but for new members it’s cool.
More important change is acctually in the line. They changed almost entire meaning of Twitter description. First it was all about you and your life:
Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co-workers to communicate and stay connected though the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?
Now it looks like this:
Share and discover what’s happening right now, anywhere in the world.
This explains the new way of Twitter, they are coming in the news area. News were already spread on Twitter but this new line makes it more clear, they don’t ask anymore What are you doing, so I suppose that people will stop with I’m washing my hair or watching TV. Specially this works for new members. They will know Twitter in other suit.
I like the way Twitter used its popularity and mass of people to make probably the best way for sharing information.
When Michael Jackson died I saw that on Twitter 9 minutes after he was taken to hospital. And it was before this change. I am sure it’ll all be more and better now.
At this moment Twitter is the best news-information source on the world.

  1. Beirut says:

Great article and argument points. Twitter is certainly becoming more of a news hub.

In essence, the title of this post caught my attention because a team member of mine wrote an article recently entitled: “Are bloggers influencers, journalists, or both” http://bit.ly/RatO2 and I guess with use of social media channels such as Twitter, all active bloggers can become journalists along with tweeps and other social media users.

    Good job!

  2. I think it’s important to note that Twitter can also be the best source of misinformation in the world – there are positive and pejorative effects of Twitter (and other social networking sites) (see http://yesyesnomaybe.blat.co.z.....etworking/ ) these sites are easy to negotiate and manage when you’re educated – sometimes we forget that not everyone has access to knowledge, sometimes just to the technology … but on the whole I’m pretty much for a merger of public and private journalism (which I think Twitter facilitates) … I think that the benefits – used wisely – can outweigh the negative aspects.

    Thanks for the post :)
