Grassroots journalism, networked journalism, open source journalism, citizen media, participatory journalism, hyper local journalism, stand-alone journalism, public journalism, democratic journalism, street journalism.
Name aside, we all know what it is. Citizen journalism is definitely new phenomenon.
But also definitely not so young or new. It started in US and made its path for a long time. Now, although it seems like only US has citizen journalism, it’s a bit different. It spreads all around the world.
In Canada it’s a hit. Also in Europe, Asia and Africa people start to think about it and many to do it.
Why not.
It’s interesting, educational and available thanks to Internet.
Citizen journalism waited but it looks to me like its time has come. I expect 2010 to be the year of citizen journalism.
One of all present problems is in animating people. People are that link, that crucial thing that creates citizen journalism. Once people get interest and find how cool is to make news and deliver them to others, there is no limit for citizen journalism.
The thing is in this – inform to be informed!
You have to give free information to others and in return you can expect to get new free information. That’s new way of making citizen journalism news.
Best thing of all about citizen journalism is that news come from all around the world, without censorship or filtration, politics and big corporations. Just news. My news, your news, news from England, news from China, news from India. News without a color and race.
Just simple news.

Truly, this phenomenon is one of highest impact tools in my lifetime. You can share news, opinions, get and give updates, not only in your country but around the world. It is an explosion of information and that is a very positive leap forward. May we all attempt to be responsible in expressing our views.
