Every existing profession has some annual prize for greatest accomplishment in its domain. Being so important among other people who do the same thing like you is what makes people want reward. Doctors, scientists, pilots, managers, musicians, architects… They all wish to get some prize for their work.
So is it too big of a dream to think that it is possible for citizen journalists to get their own prestigious prize?
Importance of journalism has been proven long time ago, but citizen journalism is proving its value right now as we speak. And citizen journalism grows and spreads its influence more and more.
Some may think bad of it, or find it as a one time thing but we all know that citizen journalism is here to stay. Readers like it, trust it and believe in it. Best of all they want to participate in it.Times are changing, professions go through changes and they develop. Some new technologies are now common and became huge inseparable part of our lives. Many things we couldn’t imagine now we use and start our day with them. Citizen journalism is one of those things. Part of one never ending theme – news.
So if this is one new and rising thing why shouldn’t some special prize be in option?
Mainstream media refuse citizen journalism and its concept of everyone is a journalist, but that’s only because citizen journalism
affects their jobs. Fact is evident and in a few years it’ll be perfectly normal and acceptable to make some awards for best citizen journalists and their work.
It’s time to create place for new prize in our system.
